Visiting the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography

Japanese House

We welcome applications from scholars from institutions abroad or from elsewhere in the UK who wish to pursue anthropological research at Oxford. Visiting Scholars work on their own research projects but are expected to participate in the wide variety of lectures and seminars available in the University. Visitors are externally funded or self-funded.

Before applying you must establish a link person at the School who will support your visit. Contact a member of Academic Staff with a short cv, a brief description of your work, and your plans. Once you have support from an Academic Staff member, do submit the application to the School, along with a letter of approval from your home institution. The decision of the School is final.

Visit periods can last from one term through to one year, and applications are welcomed all year round, but should be submitted at least 4 months in advance.

Visitors are responsible for their own visas, and they should review current UK visa requirements. In exceptional circumstances, where additional support from the university is required, a fee may need to be charged.

Bench fees are £600 per term or £1,500 a year. A University Card providing access to libraries and online resources will be provided, as well as access to communal spaces within the School, on Banbury Road. There are a number of spaces to work from both within the School and in the Bodleian Libraries using your laptop.

Please note that students wishing to stay in Oxford for a term or more should apply as a Recognised Student.
